FIVE POINTS Energy Hub Güstrow

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: green hydrogen production on an industrial scale

Planning for the construction of a large-scale production facility for regeneratively produced hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives is at an advanced stage in Güstrow in central Mecklenburg. The plant, which will have an output of up to 200 MW, will combine the facilities for producing, processing and transporting the products. Using local renewable electrical energy, the plant will produce up to 91,000 kg of CO2-free hydrogen per day.

Outstanding location for 200 MW hydrogen production at infrastructure hub

Developed by the M&M Renewables Group from Rostock, FIVE POINTS will form the energy hub for the future secure energy supply of the north-east German region from 2027. With excellent conditions, a unique conurbation centre of five energy infrastructures (FIVE POINTS) is being created here: renewable energies, electricity grid, gas grid, heating grid - and hydrogen. In addition, there is a large-scale green CO2 source from a bioenergy plant in the immediate vicinity. Due to these synergies, the location also offers the potential for the production of hydrogen derivatives (synthetic fuels).

Five Points Güstrow

Optimum overall efficiency through utilisation of all potentials

A connection to the nearby future ONTRAS hydrogen pipeline within the European hydrogen backbone is planned for pipeline-based transport. This will make it possible to supply hydrogen for industrial production processes located further away. In addition, users in shipping or mobility applications can be supplied locally. By feeding the waste heat produced into the local district heating network, the potential for the overall efficiency of the plant operation is optimised. FIVE POINTS saves up to 158,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and thus makes a significant contribution to achieving Germany's climate targets.

"With FIVE POINTS – Energy Hub Guestrow we want to actively promote the federal state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania as leading energy and hydrogen location. Aiming at a successful realization of the future production plant we are very interested in commencing the exchange with potential investors."
